Sexual fantasy even before or in the absence of a sexual experience was described as crucial in awareness about one’s sexuality. Participants talked about fantasizing about actors, sportsmen/women, models. Some of them talked about not having access to internet while growing up, nor having any access to gay/lesbian pornography. In this context, as stated by one of the participants, ‘imagination associated with sexual arousal played an important role’. One of the participants talked of drawing sketches and learning painting as he was growing up.One of the major things that crystallised my identity for me and helped me to say that I seem to like guys was when I was sketching… I used to sketch and I was learning a bit of painting… I realised that I was sketching more male than female nudes.

[Atul, 33 year old said about the time when he was 18 years old]
